Lord of the Flies
Chapter 1
“The Sound of the Shell”
Perspective: Jack
This island is so large, we're bound to get lost. These jungles are so thick and teaming with life, the fronds were quite abundant. The mountain is quite majestic, and the summit would make a good spot for my throne. The pinkish boulders that scatter the island are nothing like the boulders back in Brittan, they're so alien.
Our airplane crashed as we were fleeing from England and we crashed on this island, with no adult supervision.
I myself am a born leader, and have every characteristic of one. The enormity of my personality cannot be ignored. For now Ralf is a friend but I can see him getting in my way of becoming leader of our clan. As for Simon, he just a strange boy, that seems to meditate a lot. Piggy, is absolutely useless.
The reason that there are no adults on the island is because the the only adult on the aircraft was the pilot, but he died during the descent, leaving just us children.
The conch give the beholder the symbol of leadership and order. It also gives them a sort of power to sway/control the group of children. I think that the children have, in there mind, made the conch a symbol to follow, and to hold sacred, but in my opinion, it is a worthless piece of junk that should be throne aside. Oddly enough, the conch was tow colored.
The choir is a group under my command, and act as hunters. I like to think of them as my personal army. I highly dislike there togs.
I should be elected chief because I am the best leader here. I know how to command people, and make them listen.
I couldn't kill the pig because I was scared. I was still to civilized and didn't realize the extreme of the situation. Besides, my blade was much too pliant.
